Chamdo, located in the east of China Tibet, with complicated geomorphologic structure, different topographies, climate types and plant environments, and play an important role in Tibetan history and culture, an important city of the khampa Tibetan in eastern Tibet.
Around Chamdo, there are many sites and ancient monasteries, buildings, steles, such as Chamdo monastery, Riwoche monastery,  Karub Ruins, Chamdo Mosques, Yanjing Catholic Church (in Mangkang county, Naxi people living here) etc, and many lakes such as Basum Lake as the natural sightseeing as well, with many hot springs scattered in Chamdo Prefecture. There are located amid snow-capped mountains, deeply rivers and thundering waterfalls, and dense forests. 
Because of its special geographical structure, Qamdo has formed a rich nonferrous metal zone, There are over 70 minerals that have been verified by geological departments including gold, silver, bronze, iron, chromium, uranium, cobalt etc.
Among the high Hengduan Mtn ranges and deep valleys grow many kinds of plants and live countless precious wild animals. Chamdo is one of the centers with the most fauna and flora in the world, there are 17 species of 1st grade national priority protection animals and 54 species 2nd grade natinal priority protection animals and another 400 species of common animals in the Chamdo prefecture, the most important as Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys, red deer etc. And also over 1200 species of high-grade plants, and 750 of them are medicinal materials, mainly including rhizome of wind weed, bulb of fritillary, rhubarb, Chinese angelica, dangshen and pseudo-ginseng. Between Chamdo and Leiwoqi (Riwoche) are the ancient cypresses in a large area with about 1200 years old.
Chamdo is also famous for its own handicrafts and carving in Tibetan culture style dating back to ancient times such as circle singing, dancing, bell dance, sorcerer dance, Thangkha painting, murals painting, wood carving, spinning and weaving, and making gold   and silver objects.

Garma Handicraft & Paintings
The handcraft industry in Chamdo pretecture  composed of pottery, metallic products and paper-making, wine production, leather products, building, salt mining, painting, carving, pharmaceutical and ink production. Major products include rugs, aprons, waist knives, wooden bowls, tangkha paingings, pottery ware, butter kettles, saddles, gold and silver jewelry, as well as wooden, bamboo, willow branch and rattan objects, total about 100 kinds. Wooden carvings in Polo township, Gyamda county; Handicrafts in paintings, metallic objects and clay sculpture in Jingtong and Hongdagang township in Chamdo along the Zhachu river.  Garma is famous as the village of painters, it has a history of more than 800 years in  painting Thangka pictures and murals. Painters from this village established the Gardeng Garzhub painting school, which is created by local painters.
